Patchie started with us — Ambi & Hersh.

In 2021, sleep started becoming something we could no longer ignore. After Hersh was diagnosed with sleep apnoea, we both began paying much closer attention to the way we were breathing and sleeping.

The funny thing was, we were both lifelong mouth breathers. And, slightly embarrassing to admit, one of us was also a serious nighttime drooler.

Then we became parents.

Like so many new parents, our sleep completely changed. Broken nights, minimal rest and constant fatigue became normal, and our bodies started telling us that sleep could no longer be treated as an afterthought.

So we started researching healthier sleep habits, nasal breathing and small changes that could better support our nightly routine.

One of the biggest turning points was reading James Nestor’s Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art. It sent us further down the rabbit hole of nasal breathing and eventually into mouth taping.

Different shapes. Different adhesives. Different fabrics. Some barely stayed on. Some felt uncomfortable. Some looked clinical. And finding something that actually worked with facial hair? Almost impossible.

That was when we realised we wanted two very different things from the same product.

Ambi wanted mouth tape that felt premium — soft, comfortable, beautifully designed and thoughtful enough to feel like part of a nighttime routine rather than something clinical.

Hersh wanted strong hold. Something comfortable enough to sleep in, but strong enough to actually stay put over stubble and facial hair.

We couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for.

In 2024 and 2025, we spent time trying, testing and refining what would eventually become Patchie — with one simple idea at the centre of it:

Mouth tape should not be one-size-fits-all.

Different sleepers have different needs. Some want something soft and barely there. Some need serious hold. Some have facial hair. Some want a slit for a midnight sip. Some want their sleep routine to feel just a little more premium.

In 2025, Patchie officially launched on the Gold Coast.

What started as our own search for better sleep has since grown into a broader breathing and recovery brand — from mouth tape and nose tape to reusable recovery products designed to fit into real routines.
